Locum Band 4 Occupational Therapy Assistant
Asprey Medical Services are currently recruiting for a Locum Band 4 Occupational Therapy Assistant to work within a NHS hospital in London.
The client are looking for somebody to start ASAP for an ongoing contract.
This is a full time position of 37.5 hours per week.
Scope of the role:
To work as a part of the Occupational Therapy Team to deliver a high quality effective service to patients referred to the Occupational Therapy Team and the Pan Wheelchair Service.
This post involves supporting the clinical specialty teams within the wider OT team. Teams include Orthopaedics/Spines, Neurology/neurosurgery, Neurodisability, Infectious Diseases/Cancers, Plastics/Dermatology, Rheumatology, Cardio-respiratory and Patients on the International and Private Patients (IPP) wards. Some clinical areas will have greater demand than others. The post-holder will attend patient hand overs, undertake direct patient and family contact alongside qualified staff and alone and assist in the smooth running of the service.
Intervention includes assessment for disability equipment for children; assisting in moving and handling children including the safe use of hoists; provision of equipment such as wheelchairs, including education and advice about the safe use of such equipment for patients and families/carers.
The post-holder is jointly responsible for the administration of the Pan Hospital Wheelchair Service, ensuring that the service runs smoothly and efficiently. This involves maintaining an excel database of loans, returns and service history, ordering equipment via e-procurement, organizing the quarterly maintenance of the wheelchair stock and retrieving loaned equipment. The role also involves adjusting wheelchairs to ensure the fit is appropriate to the patient and moving of equipment around the hospital. The post holder will be responsible for training of new staff in product use.
The post-holder will need good working knowledge of wheelchairs and be able to make simple adjustments them. They will be responsible for ensuring that the correct cleaning procedure for dirty equipment is followed, to ensure that equipment is safe to re-loan.
The post holder will receive regular supervision from a Senior Occupational Therapist. They will work alongside the other Band 4 OTA.
